Wong Lin Hong is happily retired. His last appointment was as the Managing Director of Wingz Capital Pte Ltd, a Singapore company that offered management consultancy services, particularly for venture capital firms. Upon his retirement, Wingz Capital ceased operations in September 2022.
Lin Hong is the author of a textbook: “Venture Capital Fund Management: A Comprehensive Approach to Investment Practices & the Entire Operations of a VC Firm”, which was published by Aspatore Books in November 2005 and subsequently also by Thomson Reuters. He is also the author of “Outcome-Based Social Programs: A Program Planning & Funding Guide”, commissioned by the Singapore Tote Board.
Lin Hong spent eleven years (1970-1981) in Singapore Economic Development Board (edb.gov.sg), heading the group promoting the development of the electronics industry; nine years (1981-1990) as a CEO in high tech manufacturing firms; ten years (1990-2000) as a senior partner in Transpac Capital, a leading Asian venture capital firm; and two and a half years (2000-2003) in Temasek Holdings (temasek.com.sg), incubating start-ups. Subsequently Lin Hong started up SE Hub Ltd, a social enterprise that invested in and incubated other social enterprises, and was its Executive Director from 2011 to 2014.
In December 2009 Lin Hong set up Wingz LLP, a limited liability partnership in Singapore, to develop game applications for the iPhone and iPad. On 20 April 2010, a word game called ForWords Pro was launched on Apple’s App Store. This was followed by a version for the iPad in August 2010.
Lin Hong has a Bachelor degree in Engineering and a Diploma in Business Administration. He has served on the boards of private and listed companies in Singapore and USA. He has also served for 20 years (1981-2001) on the Board of Governors of the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) Singapore, 15 years (2003-2018) on the Board of ITE Education Services Pte Ltd (ITEES), and for 18 years (1992-2010) on the Board of Governors of the Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) Singapore. Lin Hong lectured on Venture Capital Financing in the Nanyang Technological University’s Master of Science in Technopreneurship & Innovation Programme from 2015 to 2019.
From June 2017 to March 2021, he served as a non-executive director of Insignia Ventures Partners Pte Ltd (Insignia), a venture capital firm based in Singapore. Insignia was formed in 2017 and managed US$320 million in two funds as at March 2021. Lin Hong was also the Chairman of the Investment Panel of SEEDS Capital Pte Ltd (SEEDS), the investment arm of Enterprise Singapore, from July 2017 to June 2023.
Lin Hong was awarded a Singapore Public Service medal in 1992, a Distinguished Friend of ITE award in 2012 and a Friend of NYP award in 2014.
